Fun Facts

• Ball pythons are mainly nocturnal animals. During the day ball pythons hide out in burrows and are active at night.
• They are terrestrial and arboreal which means they spend most of their time on the ground and in the trees.
• Their large and strong muscles allow them to climb trees and limbs with ease.
• Ball pythons get their name from their main form of defense from predators. When threatened ball pythons will wrap themselves in a tight ball. They put their head in the middle of the ball as to protect the most important part of their body.
• This species is one of few snake species that exhibits some kind of parental care. After a mother ball python lays her eggs (usually in abandoned burrows or logs) she will then coil herself around the clutch for the entirety of the incubation period (she will not eat for this entire time). This is done to protect the clutch and aid in temperature / humidity control.
